Natural cork flooring is becoming a popular choice for flooring material. It is a sustainable resource, meaning if properly harvested from the cork oak tree (Quercus Suber) the tree sustains no damage and continues to produce. Cork flooring is durable and resilient, and makes a beautiful floor for most rooms in a home. It is not suitable for bathroom however, as it can absorb moisture. It does require periodic cleaning, no more than any other flooring material, but a few special tips can help keep your natural cork flooring looking fantastic for many years. Sweep or vacuum your floor to remove dirt that can scratch the surface of the cork. Swiffer-type sweepers work well; avoid vacuums with brushes that can scratch the cork over time. Mix a pH balanced cleaner with water according to package directions. Avoid ammonia based products, those with bleach or any product with any abrasive particles, as these will scratch the cork.
