How Do You Clean Mildew Off A Deck?

0

Mildew is an unattractive and dangerous growth on your deck. Mildew can be quite slippery, especially when wet, which can lead to household accidents. It can also damage the finish or wood on your deck if not removed. While some homeowners choose to clean mildew with a pressure washer, improper use of a pressure washer can actually damage the deck more than the mildew! Commercial cleaners are another option, but they are often abrasive or hazardous to any landscaping surrounding the deck. The best way to clean mildew off a deck is using an oxygen bleach that is not harmful to landscaping. Mix cool water with a commercial oxygen bleach product in a sprayer. Refer to the bleach manufacturer’s instructions for mixing correct parts of bleach per part of water. Spray the deck with the bleach solution and allow the cleaner to sit for 30 minutes. Scrub the deck with a shop broom to remove all the mildew. Rinse the deck well with a water hose. Make sure you remove all the bleach from the deck.
