Every day, many women use lipstick as part of their make-up routine, but oil-based lipstick can also be very staining. The dyed chunks of the lipstick can get into the carpet and even spread to other parts of the carpet if not cleaned properly. If it happens to fall onto your carpet, it may be tricky, but not impossible, to remove any stains that result. Once you’ve noticed the stain, don’t add any water. This will only make the stain worse because lipstick is an oil-based product. Avoid rubbing the stain at all as this will also cause it to spread. Gently pick up any excess pieces of the lipstick out of the rug. Blot out any stains on the carpet with a paper or regular towel. Dab hairspray, petroleum jelly, vegetable oil or other oil-based solvent on the stain and let it sit for about 15 minutes.
