How Do You Clean Lamp Oil Candles?
Oil lamps are a convenient alternative to the traditional wax candle. They are low maintenance and can last for as long as you have a supply of oil. These candles do, however, require occasional cleaning to ensure that they burn efficiently. The resources needed to clean oil lamp candles are readily available in the home. Carefully detach the glass chimney and soak it in warm soapy water. Add 2 tsp. of baking soda to prevent spotting and wipe it clean with a soft cloth before allowing to air-dry. Dispose of the old wick from the candle or set it aside as a reference for refills. Pour the remaining oil into an empty bottle with a cap to properly dispose of it. Oil can clog drains when poured straight down a sink or toilet. Fill the candle with warm water and allow it to sit overnight. Then rinse it of any soap residue with cold tap water. Refill the lamp with fresh oil and attach a new wick to the burner. Never fill an oil lamp candle more that two-thirds full, and allow the wick to abs
