How Do You Clean In-Floor Air Return Vents?

0

An in-floor air return vent is the location where air is sucked into a home’s central air conditioning or heating system. It is also the location where the air filter is typically installed. Although air filters to a good job of trapping most dirt and dust particles, they do not trap all of them. The remainder of the dust ends up stuck to the inside of air vents, air ducts and on top of air return vents. You should periodically clean your in-floor air vent to remove these dust particles and prevent them from entering the air ducts. Turn off the air conditioner or heating system at the thermostat prior to cleaning the in-floor air vent. Remove the in-floor air return grill from the floor by using a screwdriver to remove the screws that hold it in place. Set aside the grill and place the screws in a safe location far away from the vent to avoid dropping them in the vent. Remove the air filter, if applicable, by pulling it straight up out of the floor. Brush the sides of each of the vent
