Over time a computer can build up a fair amount of dust on the inside. As the dust builds up, it can cause the computer to slow down, especially when it cakes onto the cooling fans, making them less effective in keeping the computer cool. Regularly cleaning dust from the inside of your computer can prevent problems caused by dust build-up. Unplug the computer and remove the side panels of the computer case. If there is dust on the side panels, wipe them off with a slightly damp paper towel, then set them aside to let them dry. Remove the PCI cards from the motherboard by unscrewing the single screw from the back of the case. Use the compressed air to blow away any dust that might be on the cards. Hold the can of compressed air upright and use short blasts to avoid damaging the cards. Disconnect the motherboard from the other components in the computer, then unscrew and remove the motherboard.
