How Do You Clean Crystal Drinking Glasses?
Crystal glasses require special care and cannot be handled or cleaned like regular glasses. Improper handling of these fragile glasses can lead to shattering. Many crystal glasses also contain lead which can lead to leaching, especially in wine. Keeping them as mostly decorative pieces may be a good idea for health reasons. It’s the lead oxide that gives crystal its beautiful sparkling shine so it’s a trade off of aesthetics for functionality. Line the sink with a soft clean towel and fill it with warm water. Hot water can damage crystal so make sure that the temperature is not too hot before placing the glasses into it. Add 2 tbsp. of a mild dish soap such as Dawn. Wearing rubber or cotton gloves, gently wash the glasses with a soft clean cloth or sponge. Rinse the glasses in warm clear water. Rapid changes in temperature can damage crystal.
