Cleaning your own upholstery is easy and cost-effective. However, it is important to know what kind of cleaning is safe for your upholstery before the first drop of cleaning solution touches the fabric. Upholstery falls into two main categories of cleaning: dry clean and wet clean. By interpreting the cleaning code label found below the cushions of most furniture, you will know which cleaning method is best for your upholstery. Find the cleaning under the cushions of chairs and sofas. Upholstery that is attached to the body of the furniture may have the label attached under the piece, such as with a dining room chair. Otherwise, the cleaning label may be found with the literature that came with the furniture. Read the label for key words that will identify the type of cleaning.
