How Do You Clean Ceramic Tile That Is Badly Stained ?
Tile can be cleaned with a solution of muriatic acid and water. However, care must be taken in using this as the acid will produce a cloud if mixed too strong and can pit bathroom and kitchen fixtures. It will not harm paint, but extreme care should be taken to cover items that may be discolored because of the cloud. Always read manufactures warnings before using any products. The acid will actually etch the grout lines making them look new. I owned a new construction cleaning business for twelve years and used this method to remove stains and clay from grout lines.
