This response may pose some risk, and it will be up to you to decide whether it is worth it, but I had the same problem with my grates and the racks they sit on. I have all Monogram appliances, and my cooktop is a 48″ 6 burner unit with a griddle. Even though I cover the nearby unused grates with aluminum foil ( and it helps a lot )I do lots of sauteeing and high temperature cooking and my grates and racks get dirty. I think that probably all manufacturers tell you not to clean your grates in the oven on self-clean, but I’m not the type to spend hours scrubbing them in varieties of solutions that get them half clean. Been there, done that, and in my opinion, it’s a waste of time that I don’t have. So, I tried one grate in oven on self clean ( in case it ruined it I could live with replacing one instead of six ) and it came out perfectly clean and literally looked brand new, and I have been cleaning them , racks too after removing the feet, that way ever since.
