Over time, contaminants can build up along the walls of your car’s gas tank. This is a big problem, as it can contaminate the fuel and subsequently damage your engine. If you don’t clean out a fuel tank completely and precisely, you may end up harming the fuel and car even more. As relatively simple as this task can be, it’s still one that might best be left to professionals. Drive the vehicle until almost all the fuel is gone, or siphon it out into an approved gas can. Never siphon gasoline out with your mouth; use a siphoning kit. Depressurize the fuel system by removing the fuel pump relay — it’s usually located in the fuse box — and starting the engine.
