For your above ground pools you will need to buy filters as they need to be changed periodically. Instead of buying a new one every week, you can make them last longer by cleaning them yourself. There are different sizes of pool filters depending on the size of your pool. You can purchase these filters at Wal-mart or pool supply places. Measure the length and width of the filter so you know what size to get. Check your filter every couple of days to see if it needs cleaning. You can also tell by putting your hand over the area where the water is going into the pool, to see how strong the pressure is. The pressure should be strong. If it is not then you need to clean the filter. Take the filter out and look at it. You may not see the dirt unless you look between the pleats. Take a soft toothbrush and scrub the filter gently between the pleats. Dip the filter into a bucket filled with water and then scrub again.
