How to clean a swimming pool filter. First remove the filter from it housing and carry it to a grassy area where the water will be welcome. Turn the water in the hose on full. Slowly turn the filter around as you turn the hose on it. Move the hose up and down so that the dirt is washed from the filter. Turn the filter around gradually while hosing it down. Continue until all the loose dirt is washed out. If the filter has an excessive amount of dirt and algae in it, you need to fill the bucket with water and put a couple of cups of dishwasher detergent in it and soak the filter in the bucket of soapy water until it is clean. It will take a few hours.
