Empty all the finish out of the gun and fill the cup or pot partway with solvent. Use the appropriate solvent for the finish you were using, either water (for water-based finishes), denatured alcohol (for shellac), lacquer thinner (for lacquer) or whatever solvent is listed on the label of your finish. When in doubt, lacquer thinner is a good all-purpose choice. Swish the solvent around inside the cup or pot to clean it. Also clean all hoses and gaskets leading to the cup or pot. If using a cup with a siphon, loosen the nut holding the siphon in place and clean the area under the siphoning hose. Empty and refill the cup or pot with solvent, and attach it to the gun. Spray the solvent through th
