The more economical boar bristles are sometimes the best choice for the man with a heavier beard. No matter what the bristle choice, shaving brushes need periodic cleaning to extend their life. Mix a vinegar and water solution using 1 part of vinegar to 4 parts of water. Apply a small amount of dish soap or shampoo the bristles of the brush. Gently clean the brush, being careful not to mash the bristles. Rinse the brush under running water. Massage a small amount of hair conditioner into the bristles. Rinse the brush under running water. Shake excess water from the shaving brush. Insert the bristles of the brush into the vinegar and water solution and swish around for about 30 seconds to remove all traces of the soap. Rinse and shake the brush. Let the shaving brush air dry. Ensure that the bristles are straight as it dries.
