How Do You Clean A Pool Sand Filter?
Sand in a swimming pool sand filter needs to be cleaned every year. The more you clean it, the longer it will last. Swimming pool filter sand is a specialized sand that is very course with jagged edges. Over time, these edges ware down and no longer trap debris. There are many manufacturers that make a sand filter cleaner. The two I am most familiar with are Strip Kwik by BioGuard and the filter cleaner and degreaser made by a company called Power Blue. I have used both of these products and have had great success. The filter cleaners are used to clean the body oils and lotions that build up in the sand that is not removed during normal backwashing. Turn you’re swimming pool pump off. Move the handle on the sand filter to the backwash position. Add the entire bottle of product to the skimmer that sits just next to you’re swimming pool.
