Laptop DVD players (optical disc drives) get dusty each time a disc is changed. Blowing dust of the reader lens before you insert a new disc will improve performance, under normal circumstances. Your DVD player is an important part of your laptop and should be cleaned with the same care. Cleaning your optical drive improves the speed and quality of the information transferred to and from the disc. Move your laptop to a clean and dry desk or table. Make sure your DVD player does not have a disc in it. Shut down your laptop, close the lid and unplug the power adapter. Unlock the DVD player by pushing on the quick release lever beside the disc tray. If there is no release lever, turn the laptop over and locate the locking screw approximately 5 inches in from the side of the disc tray drawer. Remove the screw with the screwdriver and place the screw in a safe place. Slide the unit out of the laptop by the sides not the tray door.
