How Do You Clean A Hard Drive To Reinstall An Operating System?

0

Deleting and formatting a hard drive are important for clean installations of an operating system. If you have had a virus, or worm, this is a must to do, as it will ensure a safe install, and all traces of the virus will be gone. Formatting a hard drive takes some special freeware software that will erase the drive, and get it ready for your new install of an operating system. Download the freeware Kill Disk software (see Resources, below). Create a boot disk with the software. Refer to the Kill Disk User Guide (in Resources below) if you need more information on how to do this. Reboot using the boot disk that was created. To do this, place the disk in the drive, and restart the computer; it will boot from the drive. If it does not boot from the drive you will need to change a BIOS setting. To do this, follow Step 4. Reboot, and press down either F2 or Del to enter system setup. Once in the system there will be a setting to change the boot priority. Change the setting to make the disk
