How Do You Clean A Garbage Disposal Tank?
Grease, grime and hardened food build up inside your garbage disposal tank, causing terrible odors and poor performance. Regular cleaning of the tank is not difficult. With a few supplies and a few hours of your time, your garbage disposal tank will smell as fresh as a daisy. Place a 5-gallon bucket under the disposal and connecting pipes. Disconnect the pipe leading away from your disposal with pliers. Attach a rubber test cap to the pipe that leads away and tighten the clamp to avoid water leakage. Fill the disposal tank with hot water. Stop filling when the water gets up to the top of the sink drain at the bottom of the sink. Pour 1/2 cup of powdered oxygen bleach into the disposal and allow it to set for one hour. This product will soften the scum and hardened food inside the tank and in the pipe leading away from the disposal.
