How Do You Clean A Ford Windstar Mass Airflow Sensor?
The mass air flow sensor (MAF) in your Ford Windstar measures the amount of ambient air entering the engine. This information is sent to the engine control module so that it injects a proportional amount of fuel for optimal fuel efficiency and performance. The air filter is supposed to remove large air particles that may harm the engine, but may not prevent fine dust particles from contaminating the mass air flow sensor element. To ensure that the element is clean and sensing properly, you should clean it every 20,000 miles. Open the hood and prop it up. Unlatch the air filter box and push the latch over the air filter tubing. Pull the air tubing up to gain access to the mass air flow sensor, which is housed inside the air tubing. Spray mass air flow sensor cleaner on the mass air flow sensor element and let it dry for five minutes. Push the air intake tube back onto the air box and close the latch.
