Clogged drain pipes, whether in your sink or shower, can at best put a damper on your day. At worst, they can lead to flooding in your home. Clearing these clogged drains can be done with a number of methods, some simpler than others. Remove the strainer on the drain and clean it to make sure that wasn’t the only thing stopping up the drain. Try to use your regular toilet plunger on the clogged drain. Run a few inches of water into the sink or tub before attempting to plunge. A loosely packed clog, or one that is not far from the entrance to the drain, will come out just from the pressure of the plunger, and you will avoid the more complicated methods of clog removal. Use baking soda to remove the clog if water has not already backed up in the sink or tub. Pour about 1 cup of baking soda down the drain, followed by about 3 cups of hot water.
