Bronze grave markers provide lasting memorials to loved ones. Cleaning those markers once or twice a year will help keep them in good condition. You don’t need special polishes or equipment, just some basic supplies like brushes, distilled water and non-ionic detergent, along with a little elbow grease. Your marker will not look like new, since bronze softens to a natural grayish-green patina over time, but a good cleaning will help retard corrosion and weather-related damage. Place the drop cloth around the monument to protect plantings and any stone around the marker. Put on gloves and apron to protect your hands and clothes. Use a dry toothbrush to work loose any dirt on the marker’s surface. Use a bamboo skewer to loosen dirt or debris between letters or other raised decoration.
