In a small bowl, combine the salt and lemon juice. Mix to create a thin paste. Dip a cloth into the paste and rub gently onto the brass insert in a circular motion. For very soiled brass, leave the mixture on for at least five minutes. Using a clean cloth dipped in water, take the paste mixture off. Buff in a circular motion to restore shine. Repeat every month or as needed, determined by the frequency of your fireplace usage.
