How Do You Clean A Bodhran?
A bodhran is an Irish drum, fairly small in size, ranging from less than a foot wide to more than two feet. The head of the drum is made from goatskin, or a synthetic material meant to mimic goatskin, and is typically a whitish, pale color. The rest of the drum is made of wood. Because these instruments can be struck with the hand, they tend to pick up oils and dirt from the skin. Thus they need periodic cleaning. Turn the bodhran over and apply a little lukewarm water to the skin. Add a dollop of soap. Gently wipe with a sponge or cloth to remove all marks and scuffs. Set the drum out to dry. It may need some slight adjustment, such as tightening, after the drying period.
