How Do You Clean A 50 Amp RV Electrical Power Connector?
Large amperage power connectors, like a 50-ampere RV plug, will need to be cleaned from time to time. Outdoor climates with heavy moisture will eventually begin to corrode the male plug. The male plug is the end which has exposed metal blades attached. The corrosion will identify itself in the form of either a green or white covering over the exposed copper blades. If left unchecked, the corrosion will create a resistance in the mating connection to the female plug. This resistance will cause severe arcing or damage to the blades. Remove all electrical power from the 50-amp RV power connector. Never attempt to service or clean any electrical cords or connectors while under operation or a power load. Place a few drops of the light machine oil to all exposed surfaces of the metal blades on the male plug. Work the oil into the blades with your fingers or a small piece of clean rag. Allow the oil to work into the surface if the blades are heavily corroded. After a few minutes, wipe off any
