How Do You Choose Between Job Offers?
Your interviewing has paid off and now you have to choose between two job offers. The following factors should be considered when making a decision. Prepare a simple comparison chart by drawing a big capital T on a blank sheet of paper. One side is for job offer #1 and the other side is for job offer #2. For each column, make notes on the following issues: Salary: This is, of course, the most obvious factor so go ahead and list it first. Benefits: Many people stop at salary and neglect to look carefully at other aspects of the compensation package. Consider vacation days, paid holidays, and medical insurance costs. Once these are factored in, the lower paying job may actually be worth more. Retirement and 401k plans: Again, compare plans carefully as these factors can be worth hundreds of thousands of dollars over the life of a career. Look especially at the company match on the 401k.
