At some point in your academic career, you’ll have to write a research paper. In fact, you’ll have to write a lot of them. The first step in creating a research paper is to choose a topic; this seemingly-simple task can be overwhelming when you realize just how many things it’s possible to write about. Take these steps to simplify the process and choose a unique topic. Determine your general topic. Very few teachers or professors will simply tell you to write a research paper on any topic you want. They’re much more likely to give you some criteria. We’ll use an American History class as an example. The assignment from the professor may have read: “Write a research paper on a topic of your choosing.
