How Do You Choose A Crankbait?
Before purchasing crankbait, anglers should observe the fish they’re after and consider the water in which they swim. Here are some tips to guide your choices. Choose a natural color crankbait when fishing in clear water. If the water is muddy or cloudy, choose a bright or dark color to help it stand out. Match the crankbait to the size of the food the fish are currently eating. If the fish are eating tiny shad, choose smaller crankbait, such as #5 shadrap. Observe the hatch before choosing a crankbait. Select larger crankbait if you are fishing deep. This will allow the crankbait to sink to the bottom. Observe what the fish are eating before choosing the shape of the crankbait. If the fish are eating minnows, go with a long, thin crankbait. If they’re eating shad, select a shad-shaped crankbait.
