How Do You Check Rock Climbing Gear?
Checking your rock climbing gear is an essential step before you begin your climb. Over time, equipment wears down. If you haven’t fastened it correctly, you’ll be risking your life, too. Have the right equipment and check it for any flaws that could be costly to your safety. Check out your climbing ropes carefully. As the foundation of your climb, they must be in good condition, without any fraying, abrasions or a damaged sheath. Choose ropes that are appropriate for the type of climb you are doing. The rope should be clean and dry, but wash it with nondetergent-based soap without using any harsh chemicals that will eat at it. Inspect your climbing harnesses. If the harness is frayed, or if it shows extensive damage and deterioration, replace it. Use only mild soap and water to clean the harness, and be sure to inspect it afterward.
