• Get a Library Card Register for a library card. You can do this online (depending on where you live) or by visiting a branch of your local library. Tell the librarian you’d like to register for a library card, and he or she will give you the appropriate paperwork. Once it is processed, you will receive a personal library card and will be granted the ability to check out books, tapes, videos, and other library material using it. • Find the books you need Find the books you’d like to check out and bring them to the front desk. From here there are two check-out options, the latter depending on your library: • Librarian check-out. One of the front desk staffers will scan your books and register them as checked out in the library’s computer system. • Self-checkout. You can check out here by using one of the small computer stations to scan your books, as well as access your library card account. • Check out tapes, CDs, and DVDs with a librarian Check out tapes and other non-book materials
