There are numerous software programs that allow you to send an “instant message” to a friend or anonymous user. These messages allow you to have a conversation at a much faster rate than if you were to exchange emails with that person. Just as emails can be saved on your computer, your instant message history is saved on your hard drive. By following the steps listed below, you can search for and review your instant message history. Open “My Computer.” Double click the hard drive that contains your instant messaging programs. This will most likely be your “C” drive. Open the “Documents and Settings” folder. Then, open the “User Name” folder. The name of this folder will be either your name or the name that you used when you first got the computer. Open the “My Documents” folder. Search for a folder that has the same name as your instant messaging program. In other words, AIM users would look for a folder with the phrase “AIM” in it.
