The light, fuel-efficient Geo Metro is no longer in production but you still need to keep good tire tread on your little gem so it can carry you safely down the road. Here is how you can check the tread wear of all four tires of your Geo Metro in less than two minutes. Check the tires for a tread wear indicator, which will appear as a “TWI” on the outer edge of the sidewall. Some manufacturers use a symbol instead. If your Metro tires have a tread wear indicator, look at the tread indicated. If it’s time for a change, the tread at the indicator will be “bald.” Get a tire tread wear gauge if your tires don’t have a tread wear indicator. You can get one of these at your local auto parts store and they are fairly inexpensive. Insert the gauge mechanism into the grove in the tire tread. Actuate the spring and measure the depth of tread left on the tire at that spot.
