How Do You Check For Liver Damage?
There are many types of liver diseases and disorders, each with specific symptoms and causes. For example, hepatitis diseases A, B and C are caused by infections, while other liver problems are caused by an overexposure to toxins. The American Liver Foundation (ALF) has published a brochure on liver wellness. Included in this brochure are descriptions of some of the more common signs of liver trouble. The American Liver Foundation recommends that anyone exhibiting these symptoms talk to a doctor immediately. Step 1 Look for signs of jaundice. Common signs are a yellowish tint or discoloration on the skin or the whites of the eyes. Step 2 Watch for abdominal swelling or severe pain, especially under the ribs on the right side. Step 3 Pay attention to the color of urine. Abnormally dark urine is a sign that the liver is not functioning properly. Step 4 Take note of stool color.
