How Do You Check Continuity In Spark Plug Wires?
If your vehicle’s engine feels sluggish, is hard to start or frequently stalls, you may have bad spark plug wires. The only way to be sure is to check the continuity of the wires. Removing the wires for your vehicle will vary depending on the vehicle, though most wires simply pull straight off the engine and distributor cap. When checking the continuity of the wires, only remove one wire at a time. Set the dial on the voltmeter to “Ohms,” designated by the symbol “Ω” on your voltmeter. Place one of the leads from the voltmeter into one of the ends of the spark plug wire and verify that the lead is touching the metal connector inside the wire. Place the other voltmeter lead into the other end of the plug wire and verify that it is touching the metal connector in the wire. Check the readout on the voltmeter. The continuity should read “0.” A “.05” variance is acceptable. Anything over “.05” means that the spark plug wire has failed, and the circuit is broken. You’ll need to replace the w
