Check the power steering fluid levels. Make sure that the fluid levels are filled to the “max,” or top line on your power steering reservoir. If your fluid level is low, fill it. Loosen the hose clamp (if applicable on your vehicle) on the power steering pump hose and connect it to the pressure gauge on the steering system pressure tester. Place the catch pan underneath the power steering pump. Open the shutoff/bleeder valve on the power steering pump prior to testing the pressure with a box-end wrench.
