How Do You Check A Car Battery?
• Is any light coming on when you open your car door? If there is a lamp under the hood, is it coming on? A lamp in the trunk may also be visible. Try the headlights for a moment. If ANY of these lamps illuminate at all, your battery is not dead. Continue on to determine the level of charge. • Insert your key and turn the ignition switch to ACC or ON. Can you turn on the radio, and does it produce sound? If so, your battery probably has some charge remaining. If not, again, check for lamps or warning lights. If none of these come on, your battery is either completely discharged or defective. You need assistance to either charge it or replace it. • If your radio works, but the engine doesn’t turn over to start, turn on your headlights and try to start the car with them on.
