How Do You Change Washers On Plumbing Fixtures?
Plumbing fixtures wear out after time. A common issue is leakage. Outdoor hose bibs develop leaks after a number of years. Bathroom faucets are another plumbing fixture prone to leaking. Fortunately, repairing both types of plumbing fixtures is not difficult. Put on all protective gear. Turn off the main water supply with the water shutoff tool. Remove the bib nut located under the bib handle using the channel lock pliers. Pull out the entire stem. Turn the stem over and remove the washer screw with the screwdriver. Pull off the old flat washer and save it so you can purchase the correct size. Install a new flat washer and tighten down the screw. Push the stem back into the bib faucet body and tighten the nut below the handle. Turn on the water main and new valve. Check for leaks. Turn off the water supply valves under the sink with the channel lock pliers. Pry off the cover of the handle with a screwdriver. Pull the handle off with your hand or carefully with the channel lock pliers.
