How Do You Change Valve Springs On Pushrod V8 Without Removing The Cylinder Head(S)?
When installing an aftermarket camshaft, one MUST install aftermarket valve springs. This is written for a hydraulic camshaft equipped engine. Those equipped with solid tappet cams are the same but you’ll need to have the appropriate rocker arm to valve stem clearance and the engine has to be at operating temperature to make final adjustments. The first thing you need to do is remove your valve cover(s) (usually just a few nuts or bolts). Once removed, the spark plugs need to be removed. Next you need to remove the rocker arms. Now screw the appropriate fittings from the air compressor into the spark plug hole of the cylinder you’re replacing the springs on. Bring the cylinder pressure up to 80 psi minimum. Compress the spring and remove the locks, then remove the spring. Repeat for all of the springs on that particular cylinder.
