Many Maytag Amana side-by-side refrigerators have built in water and ice dispensers. The system uses a filtration system to remove some chemicals from the water before it reaches the dispenser. Amana recommends changing the water filter every 12 months. Changing the water filter on an Amana refrigerator is different than most. It is necessary to remove any air from the system prior to removing the old filter. Trapped air might cause the filter to eject unexpectedly. Fill and empty a large glass with the water dispenser for two minutes. This helps to relieve any air that may be trapped in the lines before removing the existing filter. Open the refrigerator door and locate the water filter housing in the upper right-hand corner. Pull the clip on the end of the housing down to open the housing.
