Note: the following ‘alternative method’ worked on a 2007 Ford Freestyle. Alternative method: There are only two screws to remove. I read a bunch of other posts because I had trouble removing the taillight. Lots of people had this same problem. After you remove the screws there are two push tabs that still need to be pulled out. They are located at the front of the taillight. I inserted a flat large screwdriver near the back and applied some pressure. This released the top one, then I applied some pressure in the gap near the front. I don’t think you will break the light, you could scratch the paint maybe. The taps are in two parts. The first part is supposed to stay in the metal and the 2nd part is supposed to release. In my case this happened on one tab and on the other tab it pulled out the wrong part.
