The seal on Ford Air Conditioner compressors keeps dirt and water out of the compressor housings. The housing also has grease packed around the compressor shaft that needs to be kept tightly packed or damage could occur. Over time this seal may become worn out. Rather than replacing the entire compressor, it is possible to replace the compressor seal on the Ford compressor instead. Get the air conditioning compressor discharged by a certified dealer and disconnect the negative battery cable with a crescent wrench. Disconnect the electrical wiring harness from the compressor. Remove the serpentine belt from the compressor pulley. Disconnect the refrigerant lines from the compressor with the crescent wrenches. Remove the mounting bolts from the compressor mounting bracket and lift the clutch out of the vehicle. Use the crescent wrenches to disconnect the housing bolts on the underside of the compressor.
