You should change the oil on most Subaru Outbacks every 7,500 miles. However if you have a turbocharged engine, change the oil every 3,750 miles. Use an oil viscosity of 10W-30 and check the owner’s manual for the oil capacity in your particular model. Lift your Subaru Outback using a jack and place the car on jack stands. If you don’t have jack stands, drive the car onto a set of wheel ramps. Pop the hood and remove the dipstick and oil filler cap. These components are under the hood. Note the yellow handle on the dipstick. Gather an oil drip pan, socket wrench, strap oil filter wrench, cleaning cloths and a new oil filter. Slide under your Subaru Outback. Locate the oil filter and oil drain plug underneath the Subaru Outback. The oil drain plug is on the bottom of the engine block. You’ll find the filter near it.
