The John Deere Operator’s Manual recommends changing the engine oil and filter after the first 8 hours of operation and thereafter every 100 hours or annually (whichever comes first) OR more frequently when operating in extreme conditions (defined as “extremely dusty conditions, frequent slow or low speed operation, and frequent short trips”). Run the engine for a few minutes to warm the oil. Park safely on level ground and lift and lock the cargo bed. Work from the passenger side of the Gator and locate the drain plug on the lower-rear of the engine (towards the passenger side). To access the plug, you will have to insert the wrench through a slot in the rock guard on the bottom of the engine. NOTE – A typical socket wrench is too large to fit through this slot.
