This allows you to keep the natural wood look while still changing the look of the room. There is no need to hire a professional to do the job for you. You can do this yourself or with a friend’s help for just the cost of the supplies. Sand the entire surface of each knotty pine wall, using an electric hand held sander. Sand down 1/16 to 1/8 of an inch, or until the bare and unfinished wood is exposed and you’ve completely removed all of the old finish. Wear a face mask while sanding to avoid breathing in the dust, and ventilate the room well. Remove all of the sanding dust from each wall and the floor below, using a soft cloth and a shop vacuum.
