The front brake pads on a 1990 Geo Prizm come equipped with a metal wear tab indicator. Whenever the friction material on the pads have reached their maximum wear, you will begin to hear this metallic tab scratching against the brake rotor even when you are not applying the brake pedal. This signals it’s time to change the brake pads. Special tools are not needed to replace the brake pads on the Geo Prizm, so you can install the new pads yourself at home. Remove brake fluid from the brake master cylinder reservoir using a turkey baster and a suitable container to bring the level below the halfway mark. Leave the reservoir cap loose. Loosen the wheel lug nuts on both front wheels using a lug wrench. Raise the front end of your Geo Prizm with a floor jack and support it on two jack stands.
