The Avalon, Toyota’s flagship car, comes standard with a 3.5 liter V-6 engine and automatic overdrive transmission. The Avalon was introduced in 1995 as a step-up to Toyota’s ever-popular Camry. The Avalon was restyled in 2005 and has remained virtually unchanged as of 2010. The engine air filter element used in the 2005-10 Avalon is a replaceable cartridge made from pleated paper. The air filter element can be changed in a matter of minutes. Open the hood of your Avalon Locate the black plastic air box which is mounted on the top of the engine near the driver’s side spring tower. Remove the black rubber hose from the back of the air box lid by loosening the hose clamp with a flat-blade screwdriver turned in a counterclockwise direction. Pull the hose from the air box and push it aside. Flip up the wire clips by hand that hold the air box lid in place. Lift the lid from the air box and set it aside.
