How Do You Change Rear Differential Oil?

0

Just like in an engine, the transmission and axles in a vehicle rely on oil to lubricate and cool their operation. Like the oil in an engine, these oils break down and accumulate dirt and wear particles over time, reducing their effectiveness. Regular maintenance schedules for the most vehicles include changing these oils. Often overlooked is the rear differential oil, which should be changed according to the manufacturer’s recommended replacement intervals. Warm the differential oil by driving the vehicle for several miles. Heated oil will drain more easily from the differential. Jack up one rear side of the vehicle using the floor jack, and place a jack stand underneath a solid point, such as a frame rail. Carefully lower the vehicle onto the jack stand and repeat the process for the other side. Repeat the jacking up process for the front of the vehicle so that the entire vehicle is raised and level. Spread newspaper under the differential to help catch any oil that spills or misses
