When one thinks Porsche and maintenance, ideas of super expensive visits to the local dealer or a specially trained Porsche technician often come to mind. Fortunately, changing the oil in a mid-engine Porsche Boxster is actually not that difficult and can be done in a couple of hours with the right tools and supplies. Porsche recommends that the oil in a Boxster be changed every 15,000 miles, though many mechanics recommend more frequent oil changes. Raise the left side of the car with a floor jack and place it securely on a jack stand. Place a large oil drain pan under the engine’s oil drain plug to catch the oil. Remove the oil drain plug with the Allen wrench and drain the oil into the pan. Be ready for the oil to come out, since it comes out quite quickly.
