Changing guitar strings on an acoustic guitar pickup is fairly similar to changing strings on an acoustic guitar that has not been fitted with a pickup. However, there are a few things that you must remember about acoustic guitars with pickups. The pickup provides a bit more tension on the bridge, body and neck of the guitar, so you need to be extra careful when changing your strings, especially if your guitar is made of a soft wood like spruce. Loosen the sixth or low E string until there is a lot of slack. Remove the bridge pin holding the string in place at the bridge, and unwind the string from the tuning head. If the string has been on the guitar for a very long time, you may have to cut the string off the tuning head. Discard the used string. Loosen the first or high E string until there is considerable slack. Remove the bridge pin and unwind the string from the tuning head.
