How Do You Change Glow Plugs In A Duramax Diesel?

0

The Duramax diesel engine in your Chevy Silverado uses glow plugs instead of spark plugs. Glow plugs in the diesel engine heat the fuel until the compression inside the engine is enough to ignite the fuel. If the fuel isn’t warmed sufficiently, however, the fuel will not ignite. When the glow plugs fail, usually it’s because the glow plug coil cracks and is unable to heat the fuel sufficiently. Replacement glow plugs for the Duramax engine are available from most auto parts stores. Open the hood and pull the glow plug wires off the top of the engine. To do this, grab the plug wire at the base (at the plug) and pull the plug off the top of the engine. Attach the glow plug socket to the socket extension and lower the socket into the plug well. Orient the socket so that it grabs onto the the top of the glow plug. Turn the socket counterclockwise with a socket wrench to remove the glow plug. Pull the glow plug out of the plug well and pull the old plug out of the end of the socket. Insert
